Guidelines (for facilitators)

Centering Prayer is a method designed to facilitate the development of contemplative prayer by preparing our faculties to receive this gift. It is both a relationship and a discipline to foster that relationship.

Guidelines
  • Choose a sacred word as the symbol of your intention to consent to God’s present and action within.

  • Sitting comfortably, with back straight and eyes closed, settle briefly, and silently introduce the sacred word to affirm your intention.

  • When you become aware you are engaged with thoughts, return very gently to the sacred word.

Remember the ‘Four Rs’
  • Resist no thought
  • Retain no thought
  • React to no thought
  • Return to the sacred word
